Poetry

February 2017

Your sullen eyes

measure me, I see

that perspicacity.

Your movements

knowing, deliberate

in starved summer grass.

Noisome and unwanted,

yet ever-present

in my backyard.

I follow your stride

from behind this safety:

The wall separating us.

What’s the difference

between your soul and

mine?

A crow’s soul, I think,

is eldritch and insignificant.

Sensing my thoughts

somehow, you take flight.

Leaving a shadow on my lawn

And me.

Watching me watching you.

With my eyes I see

many things.

In your eyes I see

everything.

Save myself.
