colonial

in a paper

bag.

Inside,

the mother

boils pasta

or she

is crying.

A Maltese

ticks

painted nails

against

the back door

made

of glass.

There’s a

heated

swimming

pool

a diving

board.

A man

in beltless

jeans

yanks

on a

tangled hose.

He mutters

like an old

car -

stop,

stopping,

starting –

He screams

his son’s

name,

and disappears

into the

vinyl siding.
